Environment Sustainability Leadership Program, June 12, Bombay

Climate Change Training Program for Civil Society - Mumbai

We are excited to invite you to participate in our Environment Sustainability Leadership Program (ESLP) - a Climate Change-training program for Civil Society. This program equips people with inspiring and comprehensive tools for the spreading the critical message of climate change. Through inspired citizens we hope to create a well-informed society that can strive to effectively tackle these environmental issues.

The Climate Project was founded by Nobel Laureate Al Gore in order to spread awareness about the adverse effects of climate change. The Indian chapter was established in March 2008 with Dr. R K Pachauri as our patron. TCP-India is a communications based organization, which uses a variety of media to educate the public about climate change. We work with businesses, NGOs and educational bodies to communicate solutions to climate issues and strategies for sustainable development in India. To date we have trained over 250 selected civil society leaders including bankers, teachers, business executives, environmentalists, media planners, bureaucrats and others. Our leaders have reached out to over 100,000 citizens with detailed presentations on the cause, effects and solutions to Climate Change.

Our current mission is to reach out to wide variety of people from a range of disciplines and professions. If we as citizens do not aim at tackling climate change soon, a time would come when it would be too late to reverse the harm done to our planet. The responsibility lies in our hands to save the future of our only home.

Our one-day interactive workshop is split into two sessions. The first session explores the science and impacts of climate change, with particular focus on Indian impacts. The second session will be led by experts in the various environmental fields and will focus on solutions. The materials presented at the workshop will be provided for you to take with you and use in your personal campaign to educate people.

People Tree

http://www.peopletreeonline.com/home.html

Welcome to the Web-home of People Tree – the tree that grew into a shop. In New Delhi. In India. A shop that is not just a shop, but also a great place to be at. It's a meeting ground – and of course, breeding ground too – of art, commerce and madness. People come to this tree from everywhere. To share. To buy and sell. To laugh, draw, search, read, speak out, locate, relocate.

Now on the Web, some of the best and maddest People Tree T-shirts, artworks, crafts and books come spiralling out of labyrinthine databases to assemble here, waiting to meet their human counterparts... Perhaps you are one of them?

PS: Hat tip: Chintan

Pitru Chayya – Shadows of our Forefathers

100 minutes; Tamil with English subtitles; 1991

This film was made after carnatic singer M.D. Ramanathan’s death, and features interviews with his family, friends, colleagues and students. It also showcases those who never knew him, claim to know nothing at all about music, and represent the ‘dominant sensibility’ within which he lived and sang. The music washes over them too, drawing them into its ever expanding sweep.

Saga of a Poet

62 minutes; Tamil with English subtitles; 2001

Many years after the death of poet Subramania Bharathi (1882-1921), the words and images he conjured up continue to inspire generations of artists. Cinema, dance, painting, music, theatre, literature all resonate with his vision. This film explores how the public and private lives of men, women and children are shaped indelibly by his ideals.

Meditations on the Tiger

18 minutes; English and German; 2006

Stepping out from the security of her home, a young woman begins a ride on the S-Bahn. A tiger paces inside and outside his cage. Outside the S-Bahn window there is endless green and plentiful water. Soudhamini engages with the works of poet and writer Rose Auslander, and painter Franz Marc in this 3-screen installation.

Soudhamini lives and works in Chennai. She graduated from FTII, Pune, with a specialization in Film Direction, and read English Literature in Stella Maris, Madras University, for her Masters. Her films include Thalarndhadhu – It Rested (1988), Pitru Chayya (1990), Saga of a Poet (2000), Meditations on the Tiger (2006) and Vettaikkoru Magan – A Son for Hunting (2008). Soudhamini has officiated in film festival selection committees and international juries, and is visiting faculty at FTII. She is currently working on a feature length installation video titled Solo.
